WHAT IS LOW BUDGET FILM PRODUCTIONS

Low Budget Film Productions is a video production company with speciality services in storytelling, creative visual marketing, social media + website personal branding, multi-media archiving, and always more. It was created with the intention that you do not need the highly technological, expensive, and hard to access gear to become a filmmaker/storyteller like the pressure of the traditional market makes you think you need. ​

Michaela Thordarson, Owner + Creative Director of Low Budget, formed the company in her home town of Memphis, TN. Being an epicenter for the creative arts and music, Memphis is where Thordarson found her artistic voice. Having grown up in East Memphis in the house of local Memphis legion Prince Mongo invigorated her storytelling abilities and her love for multiple artistic disciplines. 

During undergraduate at the University of Tennessee Knoxville Thordarson worked in a cognitive perception psychologically based research lab. She collected data for vision based studies, ran pupil tracking tests, and examined tiny disturbances in eyes called saccades and saccadic eye movement. These studies resulted in her lab having published empirical research where they got to present their findings at the Vision Sciences Society Conference in Florida. 

The attention to meticulous detail and getting to use high tech eye tracking camera software fell right in line with video editing + film production for when Thordarson made the decision to become a film major instead at UT. Her strive for total creative freedom, deep care for hurt and unheard voices, and love for the arts is what led Thordarson back home to Memphis and making a business for herself - a dream job and fantasy she had always wanted to do since childhood. She has worked post-production in television for Jupiter Entertainment, non-profits, performance venues, radio broadcasting, personal events, and more since being in Tennessee.
